Time is running out for the inclusion of an amendment specifically excluding federal funding of abortion or an abortion mandate in the pending health care bill. On First Things, Bishop Conley, an auxiliary bishofrom the Denver Archdiocese, lays out the church's concerns.
Yesterday, the New York Times reported on the last ditch effort by Rep. Brad Ellsworth of Indiana to to insert "pro-life" language. But the Times story included a strong caveat from Doug Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee who described Ellsworth's amendment as a "phony compromise" that would squeeze ou additional votes from pro-life Democrats needed for passage of the bill.
